Eric Juhola is the producer and director of the documentary “Growing Up Coy” and the producer of the ITVS documentary “Broken Heart Land”, about the family of a gay teenager in Oklahoma who committed suicide upon learning he was HIV positive. He is a member of the Producer’s Guild of America and a graduate of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.
When he first met the Mathis family in 2013, there was very little in the media with positive representations of transgender issues. Marriage equality had just become a reality, and it felt like the “T” was being left out of LGBT rights. He knew he wanted to make a film spotlighting the fight for transgender rights and went on to follow the Mathis family’s journey for 3 years.
